ELO Success Stories (1)

JosieHarvey

RSU 11's Cheese Store ELO

Josie Harvey got to explore her interests in fine foods and retail business management as an intern at Belfast's Eat More Cheese store. She has gotten a one-of-a-kind opportunity as she learns and participates in all aspects of running the store - from inventory selection, to store layout, to book-keeping, down to the nitty gritty of cutting and wrapping wedges of cheese for customers.

Morse High School ELO

One of our ELO students is preparing for a career in the oyster farming industry.  It's very impressive how he has been preparing himself, many hours in the water harvesting oysters, permit and application meetings, and business channel operations.  He has done a tremendous job, all the while gaining incredible business insight and academic credit.

Deer Isle - Stonington  Student Shadows Tattoo Artist

Student interned at Ghost Rose Tattoo Shop in Ellsworth. The student has been diligently going every Wednesday on our internship day and adding extra time on Saturday. She has been learning so much from her placement and it looks to be a good fit for her to start an official apprenticeship after graduation.

She gets to shadow multiple tattoo artists at the shop along with a piercer. Most of her days at her placement involve drawing to understand portions and dimension and placement.

University of Maine - Presque Isle Student Follows Passions

Freshman Education student Joey Doll was able to count his field experience for his EDU 152 class as an ELO, and was able to visit Hurricane Island to complete this requirement.

While on the island, he interacted with and mentored students from Presque Isle High School, who were also visiting the island.

Here’s what Joey said about the experience: “This trip stood out to me the most because it solidified my career aspirations, and I am more determined to achieve my dream.”
